Week 2 Research (Part B): Japanese Background & Set Design
<Please read article Week 2 Research (Part A): Japanese Background & Set Design first>
5. Kyoto International Manga Museum
A quiet place for people to read mangas for a whole day. A lot of works I have not seen in other countries and each country has its own style.
A software for making comics with 3D models.

It displayed the history of Japanese mangas and limited Japanese production.
Though Japanese anime only has a few frames in a second, they have a gorgeous background design, say Your Name. The Eccentric Family even uses the 3D model to render the detailed background with the 2D shader.
<Kyoto>
We stayed in Kyoto for the weekend.
The street has a strong taste of ancient Japanese culture.

Another temple for praying for love relationship.

Arashi Park near Arashi Station is located on another Island.

7. 布引溪流 Nunobiki Falls

There were some houses near the falls.

8. 清水寺 Kiyomizu-dera
Had a chance to wear a kimono and experience being a Japanese near Kiyomizu-dera!

Delicate structure with attractive color.

Everything small detail in the old street was designed well, which can match with the old Japanese style. It made me feel like I was living in ancient Osaka. Good environment establishment and design.
9. 祇園 Gion (花見小路Hanamikoji Dori)

10. 八坂神社 Yasaka Shrine

11. 伏見稻荷大社 Fushimi Inari-taisha
Good use of negative space.
Even at the station, we could see the design is everywhere.
12. 錦市場 Nishiki Market
This market had a colorful light on the top and many yellow lights on the side, which made the market looks warmer than Kuromon Ichiba.
13. 堺市 Sakai:煙花大會 Fireworks Festival at 浜寺公園 Hamadera Park
After watching the fireworks, we joined the mini-market. Though there were only a few people wear yukata as I expected in Japanese animes, it was still fun.

Full of rubbish at the back, which was different from the clear street I saw near the city.
Full house!

Kyoto is a traditional place with wonderful scenery. I believe Japanese animes, like My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away and The Garden of Words were inspired by the beauty of Japanese nature. Nature is one of the best references for animation background design. I wish I could have more time staying at these places to get inspiration.

6. 嵐山 Arashiyama

Arashi Park near Arashi Station is located on another Island.

Even restaurants were built inside the forest, organic materials were used, like bamboo, which remains the natural feel.

There were some houses near the falls.
A part of the water system.

Good design for the sign to remind people to be careful of the waterfall.

13. 堺市 Sakai:煙花大會 Fireworks Festival at 浜寺公園 Hamadera Park
It is common to find firework festivals in Japanese animes which look fantastic. Therefore, we rushed to Sakai to join one after going back to the hostel from Kyoto. Sakai is quite far away from the center of Osaka. Residencies are mostly built there. It took us an hour to go there.
We saw many youngsters with Kansai dialect 關西腔. They looked quite different from the young people I saw in Tokyo before. They were outgoing, pure and cute.
